Synopsis
Blown Away is a Netflix reality competition series where ten talented glassblowers compete in high-stakes challenges to create stunning glass art. Set in a massive hot shop, contestants showcase their technical skill and creativity under tight time constraints. Their works are judged by a glass master and guest experts, with one artist eliminated each episode. The winner earns a cash price as well as a prestigious residency at the Corning Museum of Glass. The show highlights the beauty, intensity, and craftsmanship of glassblowing, making it a unique and visually captivating competition series.
The Problem
Glassblowing is one of the most delicate, high-stakes crafts you can watch — one wrong move and something beautiful becomes something shattered. But the existing brand didn't reflect any of that. Loud title sequences, bland lower thirds — it felt like graphics from the 90s that nobody had questioned since.
The Thinking
We saw the craft for what it actually is: cinematic. So we stopped designing for a TV competition and started designing for an audience that grew up on prestige television. We paired that with the high-stakes feeling the show actually has — leaning into sound and fire to make the tension physical. And beyond the title sequence, we wanted every graphic to feel integrated with the glass itself, not just slapped on top of it. The goal was to make Blown Away feel like something worth watching before a single contestant appears — classy, visceral, and completely current.
